It seems we’re expanding and included in this edition is the latest news plus several different pieces of interest for your reading & contemplation. So, let’s get down and boogie!
Our Sunday Kite Flying day …. a beautiful current started the joyous energy for the day. A great day where many people who are unable to attend Wednesday’s session could come and join in a meditation. For more see below under Diary Notes.
The promised Feature Article ‘What is Current’ – Part 2 by Stuart Bruce is included in this edition. Extending on the first part of the article, he writes that current is the experience of forces which surround us at all times. It involves an allowing of higher forces to work in our experience.
See below in Healing Journeys for a story from Peter Madden who tells us about his healing miracle and attributes this to having faith… yet another reminder.
Another Perspective brings us a story of discovery – Getting Hooked on The Casa – from Cristina Rocha born in Brazil who knew nothing of Medium Joao prior to living and working in Australia. Dr Cristina Rocha is an Australian Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Centre for Cultural Research, University of Western Sydney.

Weekend Current & Kite Flying- Sunday 29th March
A beautiful current started the joyous energy for the day. A great day where many people who are unable to attend the Wednesday session could come and join in a meditation.
The significance of the prayer triangle – representing faith, love and courage and the actioning of our intentions was taken to ‘another dimension’ as prayers were scribbled onto crepe strips and attached to the kite tails… then we released the kid in each of us as we persisted, trying over and over (accompanied by much laughter) to get the kites off the ground!!! Up, up and away they flew…. what a sight!
The power of balance and harmony through prayer (no matter what your belief system) can allow each of us to access an abundance of faith and love for ourselves. It was a fantastic family day.

What is Current – Part 2

In Part 1, I mentioned that ‘Current’ is the term we use for the experience we have at the Casa sessions. Of course different people have different experiences ranging from those who appear ‘bombed out’ to others -usually new – who sit for the session with varying levels of consciousness. This difference between states points out that the experience of current depends to a large degree on YOU, the participant.
In my time at the Eagles Nest casa I spent quite a few sessions just trying to relax to the meditative level that others seemed to reach. Of course I’ve not been to Abadiânia in Brazil and been ‘exposed’ to that intensity of current so I felt that perhaps it took time to learn how. This wasn’t the solution however – what it needed was for me to choose to ‘give in’ to current and allow myself to drift off. So, if you are new and wanting to experience the full potential of current I suggest simply that you affirm to yourself your willingness to let go and let it happen.
Other people I’ve talked to (usually over cups of soup) have revealed other points about current. Most importantly, you don’t have to be physically at a ‘proper’ Casa for current to work though you. One person told me whilst touring country Victoria doing presentations on healing, he managed to open those present to the healing current. He had been open to current at the Casa but from then on was able to re-initiate the experience whenever he intended it.
Another point I’d raise is that the healing entities spoken of by those who have been to Brazil work through the environment created by the current, but perhaps not the other way around. So ‘letting go and letting it happen’ opens the way to current and though that to interaction with the entities of the Casa. Of course if, like me you spend quite a few fidgety sessions trying to drift off you are still in the current in the Casa , it’s just your consciousness isn’t aware of it yet. From that change, and healing will come.

Healing Journeys

“I went to New Zealand to see John of God in 2007 (Medium Joao as he likes to be called) and had wonderful experiences. I was told to go and talk about the Medium Joao experience in New Zealand when I got home. So, I went around to Spiritual Circles here in Australia and had John of God meditation nights. I also discovered I was hooked on the energy surge I got the first time I went before the entity Saint Ignatius de Loyola, and it’s still with me.
Eight years before I had lost a kidney to cancer and four years after I found out I had two stones in my remaining kidney – one 10cm and the other 4cm. The doctors said they could not do anything to remove them as the risk was too great; they could not blast them and could not operate to remove the stones. The specialist said my kidney was operating at around 32-38% of normal function.
In the November, after my New Zealand visit, I had a renal colic attack. I went to hospital and after scans and an ultra-sound, my doctor told me there were no stones and asked me where they had gone. My reply was: ‘have faith’. This was my healing, my miracle!
Thank you Joao, thank you Saint Ignatius, thank you God. Since then there is no sign of stones and my kidney functions at around 90–95%.”
*Editor’s Note: The clinic in Brazil called the Casa de Dom Inacio de Loyola, is dedicated to the Saint Ignatius de Loyola a principle founder of the Jesuits in 1534. The medium Joao Teixeira, who has no formal medical training, gives over his consciousness and incorporates the spirits of past doctors and saints and St. Ignatius is one of the entities who come through for healing.

Getting Hooked on the Casa

I arrived in Australia in 1999 and whenever Australians heard I was from Brazil, many asked if I knew John of God. When they saw my blank face and they heard me ask ‘Who?’ they were perplexed.
“Are you really Brazilian?
Yes.
Isn’t he famous in Brazil?
Um, No.”
One day I got a phone call from a man who wanted to learn Brazilian Portuguese after he had been to the Casa. I was giving private classes to make ends meet while I was doing my PhD. Over the months I gave him classes, he told me about the Casa, the entities and the healing he got there.
Something clicked and in 2004, the next time I visited my family, I took time to visit the Casa. I had just a week, but it was an intense time. It was so strange to be in Brazil and to be surrounded by foreigners! I was the only Brazilian in my pousada (like a hostel) besides the owners and cleaners. It was as if I were in a bubble – not quite Brazil, not quite overseas.
One week was a very short time, but enough to see that I should come back. I met many lovely people and I was getting to know an aspect of Brazil I didn’t know. I was born in São Paulo, a sprawling megalopolis of 20 million people – the population of Australia. I travelled quite extensively in the country in my youth, but in the past twenty years I have mostly lived overseas (the US, Japan, Europe, Australia).
I knew little of Spiritism (my PhD was on Zen Buddhism), and less yet about psychic healers. Abadiânia was as foreign to me as to many other people. However, like other foreigners, I got ‘hooked.’ Once I left, I wanted to go back.
After I finished my PhD which is now published as a book, I applied for an Australian Research Council Postdoctoral Fellowship. My project was to research connections between Australia and Brazil — more specifically Brazilian migrants in Australia and Australians in Brazil. The latter, of course, included Australians going to see John of God in Abadiânia.
I was awarded the fellowship in 2006, and since then have been researching what attracts Australians to the Casa, how they understand what happens there, and how the beliefs of the Casa are taking root in Australia. The research has been amazing! It allowed me to go twice to New Zealand and three times to the Casa, where I met and interviewed wonderful people. Some of them were very sick, some have since passed, but all of them were incredibly generous with their time. They were open to my questions, which sometimes were about painful issues such as terminal illness, frustration with Western medicine, and hope for a cure.
The research has been so beautiful and so intense, that I am now preparing a book. I hope it will be a testimony to the incredible work Australians are doing to bring their love for the Casa and the entities to Australia.

Current Sessions @ the Australian Casa
Just as in Brazil, the Australian Casa has a dedicated current room space so that the energy available through our connection with spirit is kept PURE. Pure love, pure connection, pure learning, pure spiritual healing.
Sessions are on Wednesdays – there are two Current sessions available. The times are 10am with blessed soup being offered afterwards. The second session is at 1pm and of course you are welcome to stay for both.
